MISS TEEN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
SHINES LIGHT ON SCOLIOSIS
JANUARY 2020
Huge congratulations to the very courageous Morgan Elshaw who has been crowned Miss Teen Galaxy Nottinghamshire. She overcame two massive operations in 2019 and hopes to send a positive message to all people about being proud of who you are and the journey you have travelled whilst she holds this title.
Morgan Elshaw is a relatively new student to Detail Dance Company. She approached Detail after she was diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) which is a curvature of the spine. Morgan had a 52 degree spinal curve which was devastating news as she had dreams of working within the performing arts industry especially in dance. A curve to the spine creates certain risk of injury for dancers and has to be carefully monitored by a close relationship between specialist dance physiotherapists and the teacher if the student wishes to continue dancing and must always be made fully aware of the limitations the curve imposes.
Morgan faced a very invasive operation to attempt to reduce the curvature but after an MRI scan in March 2019, she was referred to a neurosurgeon because she had Chiari 1 Malformation and needed decompression surgery before spinal fusion surgery. The neurosurgeon explained that the cerebellar tonsils at the base of her brain had extended into her spinal canal and this was restricting the flow of spinal fluid. 2cm would be removed from the bottom of her skull to allow the base of her brain to sit comfortably.
Two massive operations later Morgan’s positive outlook and great care from physiotherapy sees her back in the studio doing what she loves. Morgan and her Mum have a blog to help and support others who are in the same situation. If you want the full story or more information, follow this address: https://it-is-what-it-is.co.uk
BSICA FINALISTS
21st SEPTEMBER 2019
We have such exciting news to announce. We are finalists in the BSICA evening on the 21st of September at the Royal Northern College Of Music in Manchester. We put together a routine in memory of my coach the late and wonderful Mrs Bobbie Drakeford. Bobbie had asked me to do the Barbara Sharples International Choreographic Award for many years and to honour her wishes we entered a routine called “Dance ‘til the night dies” a comedy cabaret routine, incorporating Tap, Theatrecraft and Jazz. Inspired by Bobbies unwavering energy and inner “light” that touched all that knew her. We were thrilled to hear that we have been selected as a finalist and look forward to the competition evening. If you wish to see them in action, the details for competition are at the following website; www.rncm.ac.uk
TOP 10 OUT OF 7500 DANCERS
16th - 17th FEBRUARY 2019
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Allana Taylor who was nominated by the examiner at the last examination session in Ballet, Theatrecraft and Modern Jazz to dance at the IDTA Theatre Awards 2019.
I accompanied Allana to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, for the international competition. The event reduces the nominated students down to one winner in each category. It is quite remarkable having danced for just over three years and with no competition experience that Allana achieved such success. Allana represented our small school with energy and great courage. The talent was outstanding and I was so proud to say she was a finalist in all three category’s. As the winner was announced the judges select a handful of students who they feel should be acknowledged and are awarded “SPECIAL COMMENDATIONS”. Allana received special commendations in both Modern Jazz and Theatrecraft which placed her in the top 10 of approximately 7500 dancers.
What an achievement! I am delighted to announce this news, what a reward for such hard work. Well Done!

BSICA CABARET WINNERS
21st SEPTEMBER 2019
Congratulations to all at Detail Dance Company, who have scooped the Entertainment Award in the Barbara Sharples International Choreographic Award at the Royal Northern College of Music on Saturday 21st September.
The group, with dancers as young as eight, performed the winning routine at the ceremony in Manchester and won the Cabaret category. We have decided not only to donate our prize money to Pancreatic Cancer UK, but to return our costumes, which were purchased from local charity shops, to charity so that they continue to make a difference. I was lucky enough to say Bobbie Drakeford taught me, and to create this dance routine in her memory has been an honour. Bobbie was a winner of the Life time Achievement Award at the Carl Alan Awards (The Oscars of the Dance World) previous winners have been Bruce Forsyth and Dame Beryl Grey to name a few incredible talents. Though Bobbie never met my students, she taught all of them. Her skills live on in my studio.
Forever grateful for Bobbie and so proud of the students. Well Done!

DETAIL DANCERS IN PANTO
17th JULY 2019
Congratulations to Allana Taylor who has been successful in her first professional audition for Cinderella 2019 at the Palace Theatre Mansfield. What makes the success even greater is that former student Daniel Eyre who is now a full scholarship student at SLP in Leeds is also performing in the same Pantomime. How proud we are of both of them and what a joy to think Detail Dancers past and present will be reunited on stage in our Home town. If you wish to see them in action, the details for tickets are via the following website; www.mansfieldpalace.co.uk
FEBRUARY 2019 PRODUCTION
1st - 3rd FEBRUARY 2019
We have had such wonderful feedback from our recent sell out Production at The Old Library Theatre Mansfield. As always a Detail Dance Pantomime is “a little different”. Cinderella was set in 1960 in a shoe factory in a northern town and included a film which spoofed our performance team as a clumsy “am-dram” group, who were putting on the production. This additional element of characters portraying characters really had the audience in fits of laughter as their disorganisation meant the production went from bad to worse as the spoof Drama group fought to get to the end of the show, hoping the audience wouldn’t notice. Hard to miss, the set collapsing and a member of the cast getting knocked out, still they battled on. Well done to all at Detail who performed. I have had wonderful emails and letters outlining the quality and humour as being a real tonic for the times.
Your wonderful talents and effort bringing cheer to all! So proud of your teamwork, and thanks to all who purchased tickets supporting our production.
CONNIE FRENCH OFFERED A
PLACE AT URDANG ACADEMY
SEPTEMBER 2018
Massive Congratulations to Connie French who has been offered at place at The Urdang Academy.
Connie has always been passionate about Musicals and Dance from being a little girl and now her hobby is becoming a reality. The Urdang Academy is a vibrant college based in the heart of London, which is the city Connie has longed to live in since childhood, the home of “West End”. We wish Connie all the luck in the world and are so proud and happy that she is a step closer to actualising her goals. Another example of hard work and determination achieving great things.
DANIEL EYRE SLP SCHOLARSHIP
SEPTEMBER 2017
Congratulations to Daniel Eyre who not only has been accepted at S.L.P Dance College Leeds, but is a full Scholarship student. Detail could not be more proud. Daniel has always loved to perform, we are thrilled that he is taking his theatrical abilities to the next level. We look forward to seeing him in a professional capacity in the next few years. Flying the flag for male dancers. This proves you can make a dream a reality. Be Inspired!
